DANCE & TECH HACKATHON

Dance Limerick, Dance Ireland and Light Moves Festival in association with Culture Works, invite expressions of interest from dance artists, technologists and digital practitioners who are interested in collaboration and creative exploration of digital technologies in the making of dance.

We would like to hear from designers, developers, game engineers, technologists, who are open to bringing their skills and creativity to the artistic process of making dance performance for audience.

We would like to hear from choreographers and dance artists who are interested in integrating technology and digital elements into their process and productions.

What is a Dance & Tech Hackathon?

This hackathon will be a full day event Sunday 6th March from 10am – 5pm taking place at DanceHouse, Dublin, in which teams will be made up of both dance artists/choreographers, and professionals from the technical, design, gaming, education and digital sectors, who will get together and collaborate intensively on creative projects.

The aim of this day is to play: to work together to design, build and present the most innovative collaboration and creative exploration of digital technologies in the making of dance.

The process will be facilitated by Culture Works who will guide participants through the day, and support everyone to make the most of the experience – and have fun!

Participants will be encouraged to pitch a final concept, prototype, or presentation to representatives from Dance Ireland and partners at the end of the Hackathon.

Through this partnership and event Dance Ireland, Dance Limerick and Light Moves aim to open up possibilities for collaboration between dance and technology; to share practices and spark new ideas; and to support dance artists and technologists to creatively push the boundaries of digital and technological innovation in dance performance (or vice versa).

Questions we invite participants to explore are:

When you combine dance and technology, can we create new artistic forms?
What kind of performance can we imagine together?
What kind of new experience can we create for audiences?

Why should you take part?

Opportunity to expand your network and find collaborators for creative projects
Generating new ideas and opportunities to innovate
Potential to skill share or investigate anew process in a very short space of time
Expose artists and technologists to  new perspectives and new ways of working
Develop transferable skills and ideas to take forward for the future

Expressions of Interest are open to professional dance artists and choreographers, and creatives from technical, design, gaming and digital sectors. Places are limited to 20 participants and applications will be assessed to ensure diversity of participation, including experience, interest, and ideas.

Please submit a short submission of interest HERE.

The Deadline for submission is 10am, Friday 25 February

An honorarium of €100 will be provided to selected participants to support attendance for the day.

Please let us know if you have any additional access needs by emailing louise.costelloe@danceireland.ie, or calling Dance Ireland at 01 855 8800.
